Ubisoft’s Advertising Blunder: What Happened After Ads Appeared in Assassin’s Creed?

Ubisoft has been making Assassin’s Creed games for over a decade, and while the series has had its ups and downs, it’s developed a cult following for its mysterious gameplay and historical settings. However, fans were recently frustrated when Ubisoft accidentally showed in-game ads in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, its 2018 flagship action RPG.

This affected the gaming experience, and many users reported that these ads appeared in the middle of in-game “pop-ups”. Since then, Ubisoft has acknowledged this bug and dismissed it as a “technical issue”.

“We have learned that some players encountered an in-game pop-up message while playing certain Assassin’s Creed games yesterday. This was due to a technical error that has now been fixed,” Ubisoft said in an official statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The company added: “Our intention was to display the Assassin’s Creed Mirage campaign as part of the franchise news in the main menu of other Assassin’s Creed games.” And these pop-ups were removed as soon as they were found.

However, X players were quick to call out Ubisoft’s statement. A user who goes by the username @Thraxis said: “Yeah, maybe don’t show ads in your games at all – don’t even put those features in them. We don’t need you to advertise your other games in games we’ve already paid you for – you have PLENTY of other places to advertise to us and which are less intrusive.”

Many others have since claimed that it was intentional on Ubisoft’s part.
